2011 B.A.G. League Bylaws
1)
USGA Rules will be used in all matches except when they
are amended by the League rules.
2)
A meeting of the Board will be scheduled each spring to
address the teams, rosters, schedules, fees, rule changes, bylaw amendments and
any concerns pertinent to the League. Teams will be scheduled to play either
Tuesday or Thursday, independent of one another until the League Championship or
a Position Night.
3)
All matches are
to be played at Ellis Park. In the event of inclement weather, the clubhouse
will be notified by 3:30 PM to cancel play. After play has begun, a League
officer has the authority to halt play.
4)
The League officers have the authority to make decisions
and settle controversies that arise during the season. Should they not agree
unanimously, a Board meeting may be called to resolve the matter in question.
5)
Team members must be assigned to play for one team only.
However, should a member leave employment from one company, they may change to a
new team should their new employer also sponsor another team in the League.
6)
NEW PLAYERS will be eligible to play anytime but must be
added to the team roster prior to the beginning of play. To play in the year end
playoffs however, a player must have completed 3 rounds during the season.
7)
Any team that forfeits three individual matches during
the season will automatically be placed on the bottom of the priority list for
return to the League the next year.
8)
SCHEDULED MATCHES: The League schedule will determine
which teams compete each night. A tee time schedule will be posted. Should a
team not be able to follow the posted times, they must arrange with their
opponents’ captain, to play at a mutually agreeable time on the back nine.
Failure to be ready to play at your posted tee time will otherwise be a forfeit.
A foursome will consist of two members of each team in a match. The lowest
handicapped golfer from one team will have a match with the lowest from the
other, 2nd vs. 2nd etc. whenever possible.
9)
A team match may be postponed by mutual agreement of
both captains. Results of the match may be determined by a cardback the
following week as if the match had involved those players and their scores the
previous week. Or a match may be played on a non-league evening before the next
League night. All matches are played from the white tees regardless of age, sex
or ability.
10)
SUSPENDED PLAY: A match is considered complete when six or more holes have been
played and the round is called due to weather or nightfall. Match points and
scores are determined by proration, that is, the match is assumed to finish as
it had been played up to the time of suspension.
11)
SCOREKEEPING: each hole is worth 2 points, a match then is worth 18 points.
Handicaps are used to determine strokes given or received. Net scores determine
who wins the hole. Ties award one point to each player. One member of each
foursome keeps the card, it’s then checked and signed by each player after the
match. Any grievance that cannot be settled at once should be called to the
attention of a League officer before signing the card. The secretary has the
authority to find and correct any mistakes while posting the results. A card
that is signed and not protested cannot be changed 24 hours after the results
are posted.
12)
HANDICAPS: Players with established
handicaps will begin each season with it. Previous and current years’ scores
will be used to compute handicaps. For new players, the handicap is earned after
the first round and is applied to that nights round for scoring purposes.
Maximum handicap is 18. In match play, one stroke on 3 pars and two strokes on 4
and 5 pars can be used. The most recent 5 scores are used, dropping the 6th
oldest when a new one is posted.

Handicapping for match play will be done using the difference between handicaps.
This means the player with the higher handicap will apply the difference to the
scorecard.
Example1: Player 1 has a 2 handicap and player 2 has a 4 handicap. Player 2 will
get 2 strokes, 1 on the hardest hole and another on the second most difficult
hole.
Example2: Player 1 has a +1 handicap and player 2 has a 5 handicap. Player 2 will get 6 strokes of
handicap, again starting at the toughest hole.
13)
FORFEITS: When a team has less than the full four-man team present, the opponent
will be awarded 6 points automatically for each absent player. That opponent
then will play the course for the additional 9 points available. Each hole that
is played at or below net par will earn one extra point. Substituting another
League player is also an option. In this case, the sub may earn one point for
winning a hole, nothing for ties or losses. By playing a sub, the full 18 points
are available to earn, whereas in a forfeit, the maximum points attainable are
15.
A player not present at the time their
foursome tees off on #1 tee, may join the foursome anytime up to the #3 tee box.
You must tee off with your foursome on the #3 tee box. If your foursome has left
the #3 tee box your match is now considered a forfeit and ruled as under #13 of
the bylaws.
14)
Normally, play continues until each player has holed out. However, a player may
concede a hole voluntarily by picking up and telling his opponent to pick up.
The opponent is allowed to play the hole until he reaches the green, then he
must add one stroke to his score and pick up. The maximum score that can be
taken on any hole is as follows; for 0-4 handicappers, the max is 6. For 5-9
handicappers, the max is 7. For 10-14 handicappers, the max is 8. For 15-18
handicappers, the max is 9. You are strongly encouraged to concede hole to your
opponent when you cannot realistically win the hole.
15)
UNPLAYABLE LIE: Play winter rules everywhere, accept in a hazard. You may use a
clubface to roll and improve your lie up to six inches from its original
position, no closer to the hole. Free relief from manmade objects except the
boundary fences. Two club-lengths relief from unplayable lies with a one stroke
penalty. You may also drop laterally when two clubs does not get to a point
where a swing can be made.
16)
LOST BALLS: When a ball MAY be lost, a provisional ball may be played. When a
Provisional was not played and the ball is lost, take a lateral drop from a spot
where it was thought to be lost, with a two stroke penalty (stroke and
distance). Do not return to the original position to play another ball.
17)
ENVIRONMENTAL AREAS: Drop ball at nearest
point of entry, no closer to the hole, take (1) stroke penalty, (Do Not
Enter Hazard). These areas are marked with blue stakes.
18)
OUT OF BOUNDS: When it is certain that your ball went OB, play another with a
stroke penalty. When in doubt go to the point where it went OB and drop within
two clublengths of the boundary with a two stroke penalty. Do not return to the
original spot.
19)
POWER LINES: Power line on the front nine will be played as mandatory re-hit.
Striking the poles in flight is considered “Rub of the Green” and no relief is
available. Play ball as lies.
20)
SAND TRAPS: Sand traps must be played as the ball lies.
21)
HONORS: Honors on the first tee are given to the team numbered first on the
schedule. The low net score then has honors with their teammate on the following
hole.
22)
LEAGUE PLAYOFFS: The Tuesday and Thursday Leagues will be divided into two six
team divisions. Top two teams in each division will be in the playoffs. Playoffs
for Tuesday and Thursday will be the following.
Division A #1 plays Division B #2. Division B #1 plays Division A #2. (9) holes.
Those winners play to determine Tuesday and Thursday night representatives in
the final. Tuesday and Thursday night winners will play an (18) hole match on
the front and back nines at Ellis to determine overall champion. Playoffs will
be played the weekend after regular season play.
23)
PRIZES Year end banquet only.
24)
YEAR END BANQUET: A League banquet will be held to award prizes and conduct a
business meeting to elect officers for the next year. All team members are
invited to attend with the majority of expenses borne by the League fees. The
sponsors’ entry fees are used for this purpose as well as the costs associated
with running the League. Teams are encouraged to bring additional prizes for the
League outings’ prize fund.
